Our Mission
Winterfield educates students to achieve high academic growth, overcome obstacles, and realize their potential through a rigorous and meaningful curriculum. We purposefully foster a diverse, multilingual, and globally conscious learning community. |
A little bit about myself.
I am very excited to be starting my 3rd year at Winterfield Elementary School. I was born and raised in New York and later started my own family and raised two beautiful children in New Jersey. I lived near water most of my life and love the beach and all types of water.
We moved to Charlotte in 2016 and enjoying all the North Carolina has to offer. Both of my children are currently attending college programs in state as well. Some interests I have include my love for animals and nature. Horses and dogs are my favorite! I enjoy walking and hiking , exploring new places and swimming, reading and most games, especially card games . |
Math
This year we will be working with all four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). The new concepts taught in fourth grade are decimals (tenths, hundredths), adding fractions with unlike denominators using reasoning, comparing fractions that aren’t units, mixed numbers and multiplying fractions of a set or whole. Students should have mastered their multiplication facts of 0- 12. In 4th, students will be mastering multiplication and division. We will provide several strategies to complete these tasks, this way you are able to be successful using what works best for you.
Science + Social Studies
As fourth graders, we study all kinds of fascinating things. In science you will become a Geologist - a scientist who studies rocks and landforms, Paleontologist- a scientist who studies fossils and earth history, Biologist- a scientist who studies animal adaptations, and a Physicist- a scientist who studies matter, electricity, and magnets. As Historians we will explore the history of North Carolina. We will look at the cultural and economic factors that influenced the development of our great state. We will begin our exploration in the time of the Native Americans and continue our study through present day.
